Misting Systems work by use of evaporative water cooling. A standard mist line system works well to cool certain outdoor and indoor areas(see chart for maximum potential temperature drop), but adding the use of misting fans will lower the overall cooling effect by up to 10 degrees less than the chart indicates for both indoor and outdoor cooling. This is because misting fans give you the ability to move the mist around and evaporate the mist faster, so you get a larger area of mist cooling per mist nozzle, plus a “wind chill” effect so your body feels much cooler then with just a misting system.
There are several types of misting fans and kits. There are Satellite Misting Fans which are stand alone misting fans with attached misting rings and a universal mounting bracket or pedestal. They do not include any kind of tubing kits or pumps. These are purchased separately so you can customize the install.
There are also portable misting fans that come as compete kits including the fan(s) with mist ring, high or mid pressure tubing kit and usually a mid (120 to 250 psi) or high (800 to 1200 psi) pressure misting pump. These include: Sideline Misting Fans, Portable Mist Fans W/ Tanks, and Portable Misting Fans W/O Tanks. If you already have the fans, you can also purchase Misting Fan Kits that include just the mist rings, tubing kits and pump – with no fans.
The type of misting fan or kit you choose depends on what you are trying to cool. If you are trying to cool an outdoor restaurant or home patio you would usually purchase satellite misting fans with separate misting pumps and tubing kits but if you are a high school or college football team you would purchase a 2 or 4 fan, sports sideling misting fan system that includes: 2 or more pedestal fans with stainless steel mist rings, misting line and a misting pump system to run all the fans.
